Brief Profile: Akhtar has been at Victoria University since 1985 and was a former Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Science for 7 years.

He has wide experience in educational institutions and industry across four continents. He received his B.Sc. and B.Sc. Engineering from Calcutta University and Aligarh Muslim University, India in 1969 and 1973 respectively. He completed his MS and Ph.D. at the University of Oklahoma, USA and the University of Bath, UK in 1975 and 1981 respectively. He has worked with Ingersoll Rand and other electrical manufacturers. He has held teaching appointments at the University of Technology, Baghdad, Iraq and Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education, Rockhampton, Queensland.

He is regularly invited to deliver lectures, work on industrial projects and examine external thesis overseas. His major areas of interests are power system analysis, communication, control, protection and cogeneration systems. He has been actively engaged in the teaching of Energy Systems to undergraduates, postgraduates and providing professional courses to the industry both in Australia and overseas. He regularly offers professional development courses on Power System Protection, Renewable Energy and Cogeneration & Gas Turbine Operation to the Energy Supply Association of Australia (ESAA) and Australian Power Institute (API).






Prof. Dr. Saad Mekhilef

Brief Profile: Prof. Dr. Saad Mekhilef is an IET Fellow and IEEE senior member. He is the associate editor of IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics and Journal of Power Electronics. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Malaya. He is the Director of Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Research Laboratory-PEARL- He is the author and co-author of more than 250 publications in international journals and proceedings (189 ISI journal papers) with more than 11500 citations and 54 H-index, 92 Ph.D. and master students have graduated under his supervision. He is actively involved in industrial consultancy for major corporations in the power electronics projects. His research interests include power conversion techniques, control of power converters, renewable energy, and energy efficiency.






Prof. S. N. Singh

Brief Profile: Prof S. N. Singh obtained his M. Tech. and Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, in 1989 and 1995. Presently, he is Vice-Chancellor, Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology Gorakhpur and leave from Professor (HAG), Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. Before joining IIT Kanpur as Associate Professor, Dr Singh worked with UP State Electricity Board as Assistant Engineer from 1988 to 1996, with Rookree University (now IIT Rookree) as Assistant Professor from 1996 to 2000 and with Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand as Assistant Professor from 2001 to 2002. Dr Singh received several awards including Young Engineer Award 2000 of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Khosla Research Award of IIT Roorkee, and Young Engineer Award of CBIP New Delhi (India), 1996. Prof Singh is receipt of Humboldt Fellowship of Germany (2005, 2007) and Otto-monsted Fellowship of Denmark (2009-10). Prof Singh became first Asian to receive 2013 IEEE Educational Activity Board Meritorious Achievement Award in Continuing Education. He is also recipients of INAE Outstanding Teacher Award 2016 and IEEE R10 region (Asia-Pacific) Outstanding Volunteer Award 2016.

His research interests include power system restructuring, FACTS, power system optimization & control, security analysis, wind power, etc. Prof Singh has published more than 440 papers in International/national journals/conferences and supervised 29 PhD (11 PhD under progress). He has also written two books one on Electric Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution and second is Basic Electrical Engineering, published by PHI, India. Prof Singh has completed three dozen of projects in India and abroad.

Prof Singh was Chairman, IEEE UP Section for 2013 & 2014, and presently, he is IEEE Region 10 (Asia-Pacific) Conference and Technical Seminar Coordinator 2015-18. Prof Singh is also India Council Chairman-Elect 2017 of IEEE, the largest professional body in engineering.






Prof. R. K. Pandey

Brief Profile: Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pandey, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi has assumed the charge of Director General, National Power Training Institute (NPTI) on 11.07.2016. Prof. Pandey holds Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1992. He is professionally active Senior Member of IEEE having Membership of Power and Energy Society (PES), Smart Grid Community (SGC), Communication Society. He has a long working experience in the field of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Technology and Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) Devices Control, Intelligent Power Control along with the Operation of Power System in Open Access since last 32 years. He visited various countries like USA, UK, China, Canada, Hong Kong etc., in connection with different Projects/Conferences/Invited Talks etc. Presently holding the position of Director General, NPTI, Shri Pandey is also the Chairman of High Power Committee of BHU constituted for executing the Solar Energy Project (Grid Connected mode). He is also Principal Investigator of Smart Grid Project namely “Design and Development of a Smart Energy Grid Architecture with Energy Storage” funded by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India. He has published more than 130 peer reviewed papers in both national, international journals & conferences of repute.






Prof. Dr. Phalguni Gupta

Brief Profile: Professor Phalguni Gupta who is the Director of NITTTR Kolkata, did his Ph D from IIT Kharagpur and started his carrier In 1983 by joining in Space Applications Centre (ISRO) Ahmedabad, India as a Scientist. He was involved in the development of software for correcting satellite images of the first Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS-1A). In 1987, he joined the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. Currently he is a Professor in the department. He works in the field of Data Structures, Sequential Algorithms, Parallel algorithms, On-line Algorithms, Image Analysis, Biometrics. He has published about 350 papers in International Journals and Conferences. He has supervised 17 Ph D and more than 100 graduate students. He has dealt with several sponsored and consultancy projects which are funded by the Government of India. Some of these projects are in the area of Biometrics, System Solver, Grid Computing, Image Processing, Mobile Computing, and Network Flow.






Prof. Yogesh Singh Chauhan

Brief Profile: Yogesh Singh Chauhan is an associate professor at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK), India. He was with Semiconductor Research & Development Center at IBM Bangaloreduring 2007 – 2010; Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2010; University of California Berkeley during 2010-2012; and ST Microelectronics during 2003-2004. He is the developer of several industry standard models:ASM-GaN-HEMT model, BSIM-BULK model (formerly BSIM6), BSIM-CMG model and BSIM-IMG model.His research group is involved in developing compact models for GaN transistors, FinFET, Nanosheet/Gate-All-Around FETs, FDSOI transistors, Negative Capacitance FETs and 2D FETs.His research interests are characterization, modeling, and simulation ofsemiconductor devices.

He is the Editor of IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices and Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society. He is the member of IEEE-EDS Compact Modeling Committee and fellow of Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS). He is the founding chairperson of IEEE Electron Devices Society U.P. chapter and Vice-chairperson of IEEE U.P. section. He has published more than 200 papers in international journals and conferences.

He received Ramanujan fellowship in 2012, IBM faculty award in 2013 and P. K. Kelkar fellowship in 2015, CNR Rao faculty award, Humboldt fellowship and Swarnajayanti fellowship in 2018.He has served in the technical program committees of IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting (IEDM), IEEE International Conference on Simulation of Semiconductor Processes and Devices (SISPAD), IEEE European Solid-State Device Research Conference (ESSDERC), IEEE Electron Devices Technology and Manufacturing (EDTM), and IEEE International Conference on VLSI Design and International Conference on Embedded Systems.
